Best Lenses for Wedding Photography include the Canon RF 50mm 1.2 lens, seen here on the Canon R5C.

Are you a photographer who’s wondering what are the best lenses for wedding photography? Today’s post is for you! I’m going to share what I have in my camera bag, along with what I believe to be the best lenses for wedding photography for Canon shooters. BTW, if you don’t shoot Canon, there are adapters you can buy that allow you to use Canon lenses on your camera; otherwise, look for similar focal lengths and apertures in the lenses your camera’s brand makes.

Oh wait, before I get to lenses, this is the body I put them on:

Best Lenses for Wedding Photography: 50mm 1.2 Prime Lens

Okay the first lens I’m going to encourage you to buy is the Canon RF 50mm 1.2L lens. This baby is my workhorse. It is one of the most beautiful lenses I’ve ever used, and is super versatile in lighting conditions because of it’s 1.2 f-stop (hello low light!). If you’re looking to make the background blurry and beautiful, you’ll love this camera lens for wedding photography. When all my camera gear got stolen, this was literally the first thing I bought when I was replacing my gear. I don’t want to ever have to shoot a wedding without this lens. Yes, it’s pricey, but if there were ever a lens that justified its price, it is this one. It’s also the lens you see above on my Canon R5C.

Best Wide-Angle Lens for Wedding Photography

The next in my best lenses for wedding photography lineup is the Canon RF 15-35mm f2.8L lens. This lens lives on my camera during reception shots. It’s perfect for wide angle room shots, dancing on the dance floor shots, and any images you have to grab in tight spaces. It also doesn’t distort a ton so you don’t have to worry about stretching people and objects near the edge of the frame like you used to.

Best Zoom Lens for Wedding Photography

The final must-have in the best lenses for wedding photography category is long zoom lens. Canon’s 70-200 lenses have been a staple for as long as I’ve been a photographer. When my camera gear got stolen I decided to upgrade from an EF 70-200 2.8 to the RF 70-200 f/4. Yes, I lost a stop of light, but I also have image stabilization. The price and size of the lens were much smaller than it’s 2.8 counterpart, and because I don’t keep it on my camera as much as the others, I thought I’d go with the native RF lens. In a money-tree type of world, I’d probably get the 2.8

What you didn’t see on this list was the 100mm macro. For a long time, that was the IT lens for wedding photographers, especially if you liked ring shots. Ring shots are no longer on the must-capture list now that wedding flat lays are a thing. Therefore, the 100mm macro is low on the importance scale.

If I were to add something that’s not in my bag, I’d add the 28-70 f2 lens that Canon makes. It’s super expensive and is very heavy, but haveing a zoom stay at f2 is kind of incredible. I also like the 85mm 1.2, but I have the EF version and don’t feel like dropping a lot of money just to get theh RF. Finally, I wish Canon would make a 35mm 1.4 that is a native RF. I will absolutely buy that lens when it comes out. If it comes out.
