Whoops! I posted a shoot yesterday instead of my weekly roundup. Let’s just do the roundup today, shall we?
Flattered, but No Thanks
A couple weeks ago, I got recruited by a company to be their Creative Director. I went in and met the team felt so welcome. They loved me and called me a true talent (all their words, not mine). Then, they gave me a great offer to set up my family for safety and security while working out of an office in Rogers. However, I ended up turning down that salary and benefits package they offered because at the end of the day… I love my job. I love what I’m doing, and I love the flexibility my life has right now. While I know I would have been a good fit for the company, Tyler and I discussed it at length, and we decided to pass.
You know… I think that’s when you know you’re in the right profession. A CEO literally found me on LinkedIn and ultimately offered me 6 figures to leave what I am doing and I turned it down. I absolutely love my job and my clients. I’m thankful for the trust they put in me to tell their stories.
How to Love Like Mickey Mouse
This morning I watched a mom hug Mickey Mouse for a long time as she barely held back tears. By giving someone a gift in life, expecting nothing in return, you touch them in a really powerful way. Disney and Mickey Mouse do that for so many. It should be our hope that we give selflessly to others, expecting nothing in return if we want beautiful, deep relationships. I hear marriage being described as “give and take.” I understand the sentiment, but it’s a better goal to “selflessly give without expectations.” This is one way of loving your partner more than yourself.
I’ll give the full Disney recap this coming Sunday on the next weekly roundup. In the meantime, check out our Disney Day One blog post. Stay tuned for the rest! Better yet… you should subscribe to the blog. Then, you don’t have to think about it… it just magically appears in your inbox. Here is an easy signup:
Unplugged
This week I actually unplugged. With the exception of this blog, I turned away from technology for the majority of the week (Wed-Sun). I put on a vacation responder explaining that I was off to meet Mickey Mouse (seriously). I haven’t answered emails or texts or calls in a few days. Honestly, it’s been really nice. The best part of all is that I am present with my family. I realize that I work a lot so it’s important that when I’m not working, I’m present with them. The time we get with our kids and our spouse is numbered. It runs out. I don’t want to look back and think about a Disney trip where I was on my phone all day or editing photos. That can wait. This is what’s important… most important… to me right now.
WIth that, I’ve got to get back!
Talk to you soon,
Dale
