This was a pretty hard week. I averaged about 10 hours of work per day, in each of the 7 days. What made it worse was that I was away from the family, hence the 59 facetime calls this week. As much as I dread being away from them, I am so thankful to be able to do this for a living. And I did get to treat myself this week to a concert for one of my all-time favorite bands.
The Bleachers + Carly Rae Jepsen
The best thing about going to a concert by myself is that I don’t have my mind on whether or not the other person can see, is thirsty, has to go to the bathroom, etc. IDK why my brain does that, but it has the ability to keep me from enjoying an otherwise great experience. I had a great time watching CRJ, and The Bleachers play this week at the Jacobs Pavillion (outdoor pavilion on the Cuyahoga River in Cleveland). I knew more of CRJ’s songs than I thought, so it was a nice warm-up for the main attraction. Then, Jack Antenoff and the Bleachers put on an incredible show. It wasn’t my first time seeing them, and it won’t be my last.
At one point, Jack talked to the audience about how the band started, and he shared something incredible and personal: “when I was [in FUN] everything was so successful, but I wasn’t happy. I felt guilty and I felt stupid that I wasn’t happy when everything around me was so great.” He went on to say that something inside wasn’t being fulfilled and he started writing his own music and ended up starting the Bleachers.
Success does not equal happiness. I really liked that message.
Mocktails on Rooftops
This week I found myself having mocktails on rooftops more than once. I’m closing in on nine full months alcohol-free, and I’m thankful for restaurants that recognize an AF lifestyle. The first was the RH Rooftop in Columbus, Ohio (RH = Restoration Hardware). I eat here every single trip I take to Columbus; though it’s technically a chain, it’s my favorite! Then, on a trip to Indianapolis / Bloomington Indiana later in the week, I stayed at the Hotel Indy (definitely my favorite hotel in The Railroad City) which has a great rooftop bar and restaurant.
The Week Ahead…
This week will be similar: on the road, long days, etc. However, I have a lot to look forward to: I fly home on Thursday and will get to see all my girls this coming weekend! Cheers to the week ahead!
Talk to you soon,
Dale
