This week found me in three different states for photo shoots. It’s that time of year when everyone and their dog wants photos (no, literally… dogs are in my shoots!). We brought in the week with Jensen’s senior portrait session in Tulsa. Tyler and Scout came with me to Tulsa a few hours early. I thought I was going to find a new favorite Tulsa restaurant (based on the menu), but it was disappointing. We did have a beautifully simple tomato dish. It was just tomatoes, oil, salt, herbs, and fried capers. Sometimes simple is best, particularly when it comes to food. Regardless, I was happy to spend family time together after traveling so much lately.
This week Scout and I decided to carve pumpkins. I’ve tried in the past to do the most basic carvings and failed miserably. However, Scout has been begging for the pumpkin carving kit at Walmart (don’t ask me why… I’m clueless). We grabbed it and little did I know that the cheap little knives were better than my bougie knives when it came to carving pumpkins. Look how cute Scout is, and check out my handiwork. (ALSO: sneak peek of my kitchen remodel! more info coming soon).
On Tuesday, Ellie texted that she had senior night at the Friday night football game in Joplin. Unfortunately, I was shooting in Kansas City most of the day and didn’t think I was going to make it. After moving up my last two shoots and then driving 90 on the highway, I was able to be there for her.
I think I’ve shared about Scout and my love for Splash Car Wash. We go weekly to draw on the walls, build legos, and eat popcorn and a cookie. Saying all that, I realize now that it’s the quality dad time she likes, and the car wash is just the vessel for which our bonding takes place. It’s cool to have our own little thing, though, and it gives momma a much-needed break.
This coming we Tyler, Scout, and I are off to Alaska. Scout has never been there (at least out of the womb) and we want to do a couple photo shoots in The Last Frontier. I’m excited to be in Alaska during a non-summer season. Every time I’ve gone it’s been summer when the sun doesn’t set, so I’m looking forward to this new adventure. I’ll keep ya posted!
Talk to you soon,
Dale
