Meeting Santa, Again
Santa is so hot right now. And he is everywhere! We have bumped into Santa shopping, perusing Christmas lights, and even at a friend’s house. Scout is at that fun age where she LOVES Santa, and has to go see him everytime he is near. It’s the sweetest thing. I didn’t get that with Cece, so I am able to appreciate it that much more right now. And of course, take lots of photos.
Conifer Restaurant Review
I didn’t expect to have a restaurant-of-the-week review this week. But as soon as we walked into Conifer Restaurant in Downtown Bentonville, I changed my mind. Conifer Restaurant in Bentonville is a new local gem from superstar chef (and James Beard nominated!) Matt Cooper. I met Matt when I was writing and photographing a story for leisurlist that featured some of the best vegan options in NWA. Chef Cooper was at Preacher’s Son at the time (which he helped open) and shared his passion for local and seasonal ingredients. He has brought this same passion to Conifer, right off the Bentonville Square.
We brought Scout and while they don’t have a kids menu (and few kid-friendly foods), she loved the arancini (risotto balls). We tried mocktails, , arancini, caesar salad, a truffle dish, a steak dish, and the chicken dish. You think we would be full after that (we were), so we probably didn’t need dessert (we ordered it anyway). Our super sweet server told us about the chocolate cake. Scout was in heaven.
It was a little pricey ($300 on the above items plus tip and tax), but not like French Laundry expensive, so it’s a great date night spot in Bentonville. The ambiance was great and I always love a good open-concept kitchen.
Ellie the Entertainer
On Friday, I got to do three of my favorite things at once: 1) play trivia, 2) get the family together with friends, and 3) watch Ellie entertain a room full of people.
Ellie is in the founding group for the JHS Philanthropic club, which raises money for a local charity. I’m so proud of her and her team for sharing love for those in need. Ellie and her team put on a trivia night to raise money, and we all had a blast.
I can’t help but think of her lemonade video when the Joplin tornado destroyed her school. She hit the ground running and planned a lemonade stand to raise money to buy books. She has always had such a big heart. I just happen to have that video right here:
I hope y’all have a great week!
Talk to you soon,
Dale
