We interrupt the Benny Awards voting today to say Happy Birthday Scout! Can you believe our little baby is now a three-year-old kid? She’s not even a toddler anymore. She is 100% a kid!
I shot this session on film back in October, not realizing they would be used for my Happy Birthday Scout post. However, when I got the film back from the lab, I couldn’t just let them sit, unpublished. Speaking of film, I love the look and feel of images on film. There is a slight grain to it, and my super fast trigger finger comes in handy when I’m trying to capture that perfect moment. Below are two back-to-back shots of my little birthday girl.
There is something about this outfit that screams 1970s, which is why I think I’m obsessed with this film session so much. Everything feels vintage about it, right down to the film grain and soft brown coloring. Did you know that I offer film sessions? Not many photographers know how to shoot actual film, isn’t that hard to believe? Since my dad taught me how to shoot film, I can properly expose images in any lighting situation (that’s important for a designer wedding photographer). I would love to photograph your wedding or family on film!
This next shot was Scout’s idea. She really wanted to pose by the water. I think she actually planned to hop in and this was a setup move to achieve that goal. Regardless, she wanted to pose here, and wanted to strike this very pose. Get it girl.
From your dad: Happy Birthday Scout! You make me really proud when you think of others and show empathy. You make me proud when you share your feelings and thoughts with me. And you make me proud when you are kind to others. Thank you for taking after your mom so well. I love you so very much.
Talk to you soon,
Dale
