I’ve been photographing Scottie James’ mom since before she was a mom. Having an overlapping circle of friends and work colleagues, Brittany and I go way back! Let me just say: watching a friend become an incredible mother is one of the most beautiful things in this world.

And Brittany is, without a doubt, an incredible mother. Scottie James Teague has had a challenging battle accompanied by a beautiful story of her parents’ love. If you follow Brittany on instagram you know what I mean, but I found that telling the story of this family’s love is something I really wanted to do. You’ll find that instead of this being a straight-up portrait session, it focuses more on relationships.

We met up on a snowy morning in Fayetteville to shoot some portraits of the trio. I went to their home because we thought it best and safest for Scottie to not get out in the weather and potentially around people. I’ve had both vaccinations so me coming into their beautiful home posed minimal risks. I spent about an hour with the family, capturing images, listening to their story, and reflecting on our past friendship. It was a pretty great way to start the day.
