Best Wedding Portrait nominees were nearly impossible to narrow down. Spending time on the wedding day–just me and the couple–getting portraits is my favorite part of the wedding day. Because every wedding day is different, you never know what will jump out and inspire that perfect portrait. I get inspired by light, and also location. There are some incredible wedding venues in Arkansas, where all but 5 of these weddings were set. We live in a beautiful state that offers so much to a seasoned wedding photographer. The 5 that were set in other states easily inspired me, as new locations always do. From Missouri (my home state), to Oklahoma, to Jackson Hole, to Alaska… I’m so honored that my brides trust me to capture timeless wedding portraits for them.

And this year, I’m adding in two non-wedding portrait categories for your voting pleasure! While I’ve primarily been a wedding photographer for the past decade, many of my couples have gone on to have families. As my family and portrait clients have grown, I’ve felt an increasing need to represent them in the Benny Awards! This year I broke it into two categories:

What are the Benny Awards?
The Benny Awards are an annual party Dale from Benfield Photography throws for his couples. At the party, the winners are announced for each category, such as best wedding kiss and best wedding shoes. This year he added two non-wedding categories because so many of this clients are already married and he wanted them to be represented.
